Feature

Files between your devices, instantly

Taildrop moves files across the encrypted mesh — no upload, no cloud copy, no size anxiety.

File gliders traveling between phone, laptop and desktop on the mesh

Built for the 40 GB problem

Files travel device-to-device over the same AmneziaWG tunnels as everything else — fast on the same LAN, still fine across continents. Nothing lands on anyone's cloud drive, no upload step sits in the middle, and a sleeping destination just means the transfer resumes when it wakes.

Quick start

# send a file to your NAS from macOS / Linux
$ openvlan file cp dataset.tar.gz nas-01:

# or use the GUI: right-click → Share → Taildrop
# on the receiving device, accept from the menu bar app

Questions and answers

How big can a transfer be?
As big as the destination disk. There's no service in the middle imposing a cap — it's a direct device-to-device stream over the mesh.
What if the destination is asleep?
The transfer queues and resumes when the device wakes and rejoins the mesh. No failed uploads, no partial cleanup.
Can I send from the terminal?
Yes — openvlan file cp dataset.tar.gz nas-01: lands the file without leaving the shell, and the GUI's right-click share sheet does the same on desktop and mobile.
Can colleagues receive files this way?
If they're on your mesh and the ACL allows it, their devices appear as destinations — with everything encrypted end to end and attributed to you.
Does it work on mobile?
Yes. The iOS and Android share sheets list your devices, so screenshots and videos reach your desktop or NAS in one tap.
